Moral dilemma #11

John has been given the responsibility of hiring people in the company he works for. His friend Alan applies for one of the jobs and is suitably qualified. John would like to give the job to Alan but is aware that someone with even better qualifications has also applied.

Although he knows his company is relying on his sound judgement and impartiality, John decides he cannot ignore his obligations as a friend and gives the job to Alan. Was he right?
