CIA Assassination Plots

Fidel Castro40 years ago, CIA plots to assassinate foreign leaders such as Fidel Castro and Patrice Lumumba were exposed by the Church Committee.

In 1975 and 1976, in the wake of the Watergate scandal, the Church Committee published fourteen reports on the activities of various U.S. intelligence agencies and the alleged abuses of power that they had committed.

Among the matters investigated were CIA attempts to assassinate foreign leaders, including Patrice Lumumba of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rafael Trujillo of the Dominican Republic. A plan to use the Sicilian Mafia to kill Fidel Castro of Cuba was also uncovered.
