This week in Texas, an all-Republican review panel of three judges dismissed charges against Judge Sharon Keller who shut the door on an appeal against a death sentence.
In September 2007, Keller told attorneys scrambling to file a last-minute appeal for Michael Wayne Richard: “We close at 5”. She closed the court and Richard was executed that night for the rape and murder of a nurse.
What does that say about the integrity of the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals? What does it say about the three judges on the review panel who upheld Keller’s appeal against the public reprimand issued by the State Commission on Judicial Conduct? Don’t expect justice in Texas after 5 o’clock.
